Hi Jella,
We've stayed there a couple of times. 'twas our first outing a couple of years ago when we first got the van. Kids loved it. and always talk about it. In terms of on-site facilities, there's very little to see / do in my opinion. Small playground with a few climbing frames / swings, but could do with upgrading. There is a crazy golf area, which is good fun, but again - tired. There is a large bard type building that is supposed to be the kids disco, but in the 2 times we've been - it's never been open.
Haven't been this year, but given the proximity to Dublin, it's handy for a quick getaway. In a small village. Centra (or Londis) just across the road, and a clean pub at entrance. The restaurant is clean, and again, the kids still go on about the size of the "feast" I ordered one night.
There is also a separate section for couples only - a bolt hole from the noise that is families. Great if you want to write a book on your travels.
Roads to and from a a bit tight, and have had some near misses with horse boxes and tractors. We have switched to Hidden Valley in Rathdrum as a preferred "local" site, and the kids love it.
Don't know if this helps.

Susie & I are here tonight and we LOVE IT !!!!!
My inlaws had a static home for years (20 years ago) i stayed here back then they now have moved across the road.
Sue & I think this place is SAVAGE (thats good) and we are sorry we can only stay one night this week but we intend on coming back for a few days soon.
Very clean, spacious, & the Aminity Block is spotless we are up the back in the "secret garden" and its great....

Heading here for the bank holiday weekend. Does anyone know of amenties in walking distance that they can recommend..... just in case the irish weather does its thing and rains.
Loving the idea of the secret garden as bank holidays tend to be quite hyper on sites

We're just back from river valley, stayed there for august bank holiday weekend. HAve to say we were very disappointed we'd heard great things about it. It was our first time camping in ireland after camping in france wales and england, if this is supposed to be one of the best in Ireland...don't feel like seeing the rest! I now know that a bank hol weekend is not the time to go it was packed out and very cramped, playground was ok but covered in stones which were being thrown around by the unsupervised kids. There were kids running around wild until after 11.30 didn't seem to be any parents keeping an eye on them... lots of drink being consumed..I didn't feel I could let the kids go anywhere alone. After the freedom they'd had in safety in other campsites it was disappointing for them.
Besides that lots to do in the area only 7 miles from brittas bay, had a lovely day out in greenan farm and maze, and avondale house and gardens. I would just recommend not to go near the place on bank holiday weekend.. |

Im afraid i have to agree with Anasi...went to River Valley for the weekend, stayed in the Secret Garden supposedly 'Adults Only' section, but kids in and out the whole time. Warden who is meant to supervise the area was nowhere to be seen. At one stage i phoned reception to say that there were a couple with 7 kids touring the section and had been there for a while. The lady i spoke to had a 'what do you want me to do about it attitude' and was VERY RUDE to me . Showers were great, but token boxes full so wasted two coins without getting a shower. Bathrooms weren't as clean as you'd have expected and quite a few bringing their kids from Family section in there for showers etc
I did speak with the owner when leaving as i believe you should always tell them when happy and unhappy but i had a bad taste in my mouth about the place at that stage.
Moved onto the Glen of Aherlow on sunday, also packed but its usual Excellent service and standard, so finished the weekend well......
