Stayed in Sir Roger's Caravan Park in Banna this weekend. First impressions were very good - the park was spotless, was right beside the beach, had a good playground etc. But over the course of the weekend there were certain things about the site that we felt uncomfortable with. There are rules everywhere and it seemed like if you put a foot out of line you would be asked to leave.
If you need to leave the park make sure you have plenty of cash with you - there is a €50 deposit for the key fob ! There seems to be a charge for everything, showers are €2 for 5 minutes, there is a small cooker in the campers kitchen that costs €2 for 20 minutes, hair dryer, iron etc.
The pitches were quite tight - we had an awning up and there wasn't enough room to park the car beside the caravan. There was plenty of room behind so the parking wasn't a problem but there was a lack of privacy with units parked so close together. There were rules on all caravans having the door facing the same direction.
On Friday evening my kids were down playing football on the football pitch and the ball rolled across the road beside a mobile home. When my daughter went to collect the ball, the owner of the mobile home came out and started giving out to her for kicking the ball against her mobile home. I would never let my kids play football around caravans but they were on the football pitch and there was no danger of the ball being kicked against the mobile home.
In general people were very mindful of children when driving around the site but the owner tended to drive very quickly the 100m from her house to the office and on one occasion I saw her drive across the grass around a mobile home.
We felt that while this was a very nice site the atmosphere could be improved if the rules were relaxed a bit. We just didn't feel all that welcome and I do not think we will be back.

We stayed there a few years ago and did not like it either. There may be an old post on this site somewhere. Definitely would not go back.

These are just some of the reasons why we hate staying on Irish campsites, but no 1 has to be the GREED of the owners with their charges for everything. Happy Camping.

I arrived at Sir Roger,s Ardfert on 11/08/09 with my wife and 3 kids and wee dog in our motorhome. It was at least 25 years since i have been in that kneck of the woods.I am more familiar with Dingle, for a change we decided to try Banna Beach for water sports and the like. When we arrived on site i was a bit suprised to be informed that my 16 year old and 14 year old son,s were been classed as adults. And of course the €3.00 for same the wee dog.GREED IS STILL ALIVE IN IRELAND.We were given our pitch number which was adaquate,at least there was a water tap and electric connection on each pitch. It is a beautiful location and a well laid site, but there was not a friendly feeling about the place. My youngest son wanted to leave after a couple of hours. We left by 10.00 am the next morning. The toilet block was well laid out,but the floors in both males and females were wet and slippery and lack of loo rolls in the males next morning.I must not forget the sign on the toilet block which states that CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AND ADULT WHEN GOING TO THE TOILET.Well my 2 kids that were classed as adults if they were to go to the toilets neede either my wife or myself.Yes i saw the Lady of the site driving from her house to reception as well.Time to leave never to come back, not even a thank you or safe driving when checked out.Just left at the barrier trying to get out,i had to ask my ADULT 16 year old son to ask the LADY to release us.I would not recommend to any of my friends to go there.

Hi Siobhán

Be careful with the invites, we might have the next meet there...Have you room for fourteen campers

Only Joking, how are you finding the MH experience, we have been travelling around Ireland for the last two summers, (did the states in 2006 & Europe in 2007) and I have to say I had no bad experiences in the states, I had 3 or 4 in Europe but I have felt welcome in every site so far in Ireland..am I biased?

I HAVE BEEN CAMPING FOR THE LAST 2 SUMMERS IN IRELAND IN BOTH WATERFORD AND KERRY AND HAVE RECENTLY STAYED IN SIR ROGERS CARAVAN PARK AND FOUND IT TO BE QUIET REASONABELY PRICED,FOR MYSELF, MY HUSBAND AND OUR 2 CHILDREN IN A FAMILY TENT IN LATE JUNE WE PAID 20 EUROS.
WE HAVE PAID 32EUROS IN KILLARNEY FLESK PARK BEFORE. WE FOUND THE PARK VERY CLEAN AND FRIENDLY, THE KIDS LOVED IT,THERE WAS A GREAT PLAYGROUND AND IT IS REALLY CLOSE TO THE BEACH. OVERALL NICE ATMOSPHERE, REALLY ENJOYED IT AND PLANNING TO GO BACK SOON.
